City Limits Pub, Wallace Idaho
A great way to start any trip is to make your first stop at a place that serves beer. And what better way to start my spring 2015 trip than making my first stop at City Limits Pub in Wallace Idaho. Not only was it a pub but they also serve craft beer from North Idaho Mountain Brew, which comes in handy because I loves me some craft beer.
The City Limits Pub is aptly named as it sits on the city limits of Wallace. I found a parking spot, which on a Thursday night, was quite impressively far away from the entrance. The place was packed with cars which to me indicated positive things such as good food and good beer. Both things I like.
Since I had Boomer with me I kept an eye out for dog friendly seating, which there was an outdoor patio spot that would have allowed Boomer to join me. Unfortunately it was later in the day and the pub is located in a somewhat shady spot which meant that the temperature was slightly chilly. I opted for an inside seat instead and left Boomer relaxing in the car.
I found myself a seat at the bar and began the important task of finding myself a beer and dinner. I decided to start first with the Black IPA. It is a seasonal beer with a 7% ABV (Alcohol By Volume) and a 68 IBU (International Bittering Unit). The beer had a nice flavor to it followed up with a nice hop finish. Typically I do not like floral hops but this beer did a nice job of balancing the flavors.
Pulled Pork Sandwich for dinner
As I waited for my pulled pork sandwich for dinner I watched many of the TVs located around the bar, which fortunately for me it was hockey playoff season and I could catch up on some games while on vacation.
The Cripple Creek IPA
My pulled pork sandwich arrived and I was ready for another beer. I ordered the Cripple Creek IPA, a 6.7% ABV and a no where to be labeled IBU. I liked this beer a lot, it was dry hopped with a citrus hop which gave the beer a nice hop punch, which is something always enjoyed by me. My sandwich on the other hand… maybe not so much enjoyed. Onions and lettuce accompanied the pulled pork which I found to be slightly bizarre. So not my favorite sandwich I guess you could say. But let’s be honest I was really there for the beer, not the food, right?
