Trickster’s Brewing in Coeur d’Alene Idaho

Tucked away along some industrial buildings you will find Trickster’s Brewing in Coure D Alene Idaho. Although more of a distributor location, there is a small tasting room located at the brewery. I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and had the place to myself. Not my favorite scenario but it meant that I would have quick service!

I ordered a tasting platter, starting with the Stonewall Amber. A 5.9 alcohol by volume (ABV) and a 40 International Bittering Unit (IBU). The beer had good flavor, a malty mix with a low hop backing. It served its purpose well for an amber.

My next taste was the Hipster Juice Pale Ale. And while I try to avoid all things hipster I was willing to give this one a try because I love a good pale ale. This beer however was not my favorite of the bunch. With a 4.9 ABV and a 45 IBU, the beer had an overbearing taste of lemon and I was reminded of my last brush with Lemon Pledge, the Lemon Zippy from Snoqualmie Brewing. Apparently much like hipsters, I should also avoid beers with lemon flavors.

The Shapeshifter IPA

The Shapeshifter IPA was up next. This beer had a 6.5% ABV and a 65 IBU. This beer was the best out of the bunch and I ordered a full pint after my tasting platter was finished.  The hop flavor wasn’t too bold, which I expect from an IPA, but it had some nice citrus flavors.

I moved on to The XP Pale Ale. It had a 7.3% ABV and a 45 IBU. I felt that this beer was lacking some flavor. There were light notes of citrus and caramel but nothing really stepping up to the plate and saying “hey I’m here”. There was also a touch of lemon in this beer, but unlike it’s Hipster friend, it did not offend.

Although not on the tasting platter for the day, I have also tried the Bear Trap Brown Ale from Trickster’s at other local restaurants. This beer has a nice chocolate note with a malty finish. The Bear Trap has a 4.9% ABV and a 33 IBU.  This is usually the beer I see on rotating taps around town and would most likely be the one you will encounter as well.

Trickerster’s Brewing is located at 3850 North Schrieber Way in Coeur d’ Alene. They are open Monday – Wednesday 3pm to 7pm and Friday – Saturday 11am – 8pm. No official brewery tours are offered.
